Cadbury’s Iconic Purple Packaging Now Uses 80% Recycled Plastic
Cadbury sharing bars are now available in 80% certified recycled packaging, marking a significant step forward in sustainable packaging. This new initiative will see over 300 million bars wrapped each year using packaging that incorporates 600 tons of post-consumer plastic—the equivalent weight of around 40 standard double-decker buses.
As sustainability becomes a critical focus in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry, companies are increasingly embracing eco-conscious practices across their supply chains. This includes improvements in packaging, sourcing, and operational efficiency, with the aim to reduce environmental impact, cut waste, and enhance brand reputation.
Cadbury’s new packaging has been produced using advanced recycling technology that transforms used plastic into food-grade, flexible packaging. The approach uses the mass balance system, meaning Cadbury has sourced and allocated recycled plastic material according to ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) standards.
The packaging transition is already underway, with products like Cadbury Dairy Milk Caramel 120g, Cadbury Fruit and Nut 180g, and Cadbury Dairy Milk 360g already hitting the shelves in their new, sustainable wrapping. Cadbury’s goal is for all sharing bars sold in the UK and Ireland to be packaged in 80% recycled plastic by the end of 2025.
By reducing reliance on virgin plastic and investing in recycled materials, Cadbury is reinforcing its support of the circular economy—while maintaining the same rich, delicious taste that fans love.
